LKC Organized Lecture On ‘Genetics Of Human Mendelian Disorders And Oral Cancer’

Nov 15, 2014: P.G. Department of Biotechnology organized lecture on ‘Genetics of Human Mendelian Disorders and Oral Cancer’ under Mata Tej Kaur Rai Memorial Lecture Series on Science, Society and Value. Resource person of this lecture was Dr. Arun Kumar, Professor from Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
The Eminent resource person described the basis of Human Genetics and Oral Cancer. He focused on genetics of ophthalmic disorders such as congenital hereditary corneal dystrophy and Weill-Marchesani Syndrome (WSM).
Various Neurological disorders like Tuberous Sclerosis complex, Primary microcephaly and Wilson disease were discussed in the lecture. He discussed different techniques like Whole Exon Sequencing, RT-PCR, Gene Expression Microarray, CHIP and EMSA. On this occasion, Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra, Principal, Dr. K.S. Rai, Professor Emirates from U.S.A, Dr. Arun Dev Sharma, HOD, department of Biotechnology presented token of honor to resource person: Dr. Arun Kumar.
The stage was conducted by Dr. Inderjeet Kaur. Various faulty members, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Prof, Gobind Ram, Dr. Inderjeet Kaur, Prof. Pratibha and Prof. Rabia were present during the lecture. The lecture acted as an eye opener for the students.
